(Ignore this step if you have done it.) 5. Launch D2SE and The Sin War mod banner appears at the bottom of lists. The modmanager allows you to load 3 own.mpq files without any effort. All.mpq files have a higher priority than the patchd2.mpq. All.mpq files have a higher priority than the patchd2.mpq. Also, you can simply disable the original patchd2.mpq so that it will not be loaded anymore.
I tried updating from 1.13 to 1.14 and the LOD patcher ran into an error saying 'd2exp.mpq does not exist', so I went to the regedit, jumped into HKCU/Software/Blizzard Entertainment/Diablo II. Edited DiabloIICD, InstallPath, Program and Save Path keys pointing to my Diablo II folder. Then jumped to HLM/SOFTWARE/Blizzard Entertainment/Diablo II and edited the same registry keys. Then the patcher proceeded as normal. After it finished, the game started and shown a beautiful 1.14 in the bottom-left corner.
So I found out it's not needed (at all) to do a clean reinstall.
